Graduating from high school can come with a lot of big questions. What do I want to study? What kind of career do I want? Am I ready for college? If you do not have all the answers, you are not alone. Taking time to explore your interests, gain experience, and discover what matters to you can be a valuable step toward your future. At CMC, we give you the opportunity to explore those questions, discover new possibilities, and gain hands-on experience that can help you decide what comes next.
What is CMC Nashville, and who is it for?
CMC Nashville is a semester-long, hands-on music and entertainment industry program. Students gain practical experience, learn from industry professionals, collaborate with other students, and explore how to pursue careers in the entertainment industry while growing in their faith.
What if I do not know what I want to do after high school?
You do not have to have your future figured out to take your next step, especially if you are considering CMC Nashville. CMC gives you a semester to explore your interests, gain hands-on experience in the music industry, discover your strengths, and learn from professionals working in the field. You will also build relationships, grow in your faith, and gain a better understanding of the opportunities available to you. Whether you are considering college, a career, or still figuring things out, CMC can help you take a more confident step toward what comes next.
Is CMC Nashville a good fit for students taking a gap year?
Yes. CMC welcomes high school graduates and students who are not ready to commit to a four-year college experience. Students can spend a semester exploring career interests, developing practical skills, building industry connections, and earning college credit before deciding on their next step. No prior college enrollment or degree is required.
Do colleges look negatively at a gap year?
Not necessarily. A gap year is not automatically a negative; some colleges allow admitted students to postpone enrollment and expect them to use that time constructively. Be ready to explain why you chose a gap year, what you learned, and how the experience connects to your next steps. Each college sets its own rules, so if you have already been accepted, request approval to defer before making plans. Because CMC includes college coursework, ask your intended college whether participating would affect your deferred admission, eligibility to apply as a first-year student, or ability to earn transfer credit. Do not assume that permission to take a gap year also means permission to enroll in college courses elsewhere.
What are the admissions requirements for gap year students?
Students must complete an online application for their intended semester and participate in a quick Zoom conversation with the director of operations. Application materials include demographic information, academic history, and general questions. Students applying to the Artist and Worship Tracks must also submit a recorded demo.
Do I need prior music experience to attend CMC?
No. You do not need to be a seasoned musician to attend CMC Nashville. Prior musical experience can be helpful for some tracks, but students in the Technical Track can learn the fundamentals from the ground up. The most important thing is to choose the track that fits your interests and be willing to learn, collaborate, and try new things.
For the Artist and Worship Tracks, a recorded demo is required as part of the application. If you are unsure which track is right for you, contact the CMC team to discuss your interests and experience.
How much does the program cost, and is financial aid available?
The total program cost is $17,600, which includes $13,400 in instructional fees and $4,200 for housing. Also included in this cost is 24/7 access to pro production gear and studios, all tour and show expenses, and meals while on tour and every Friday evening.
As a gap year student, you'll be billed directly by CMC, with the option of a 6-month payment plan. You can contact the CMC team to discuss available financial assistance, payment options, and eligibility for scholarships or other aid.
Where will students live during the semester?
CMC is designed to provide an immersive residential experience, allowing students to learn and build community together. Students live in an apartment complex right across the street from the CMC campus. Each apartment has 2 or 3 bedrooms housing a total of 4-5 students. The apartments are outfitted like typical dorm rooms: beds, desks, dressers, couches, dining room table, and chairs. Each fully furnished apartment features a full kitchen with basic supplies, a washer and dryer, wireless internet and free access to the fitness center and swimming pool.
Can I earn college credit during my gap year?
Yes. Students can earn 16 college credits through Greenville University during the semester. If you plan to attend another college afterward, check with that institution to determine whether and how your credits will transfer.
How do I transfer my gap year credits to a different college?
Start before you enroll at CMC. The semester carries 16 college credits through Greenville University, but the college you attend next decides whether to accept those credits. CMC cannot guarantee transfer, so confirm the receiving college’s policies before signing an enrollment agreement. Here is how to plan ahead:
Contact your intended college’s admissions office or registrar before enrolling. Explain that you plan to earn credits through Greenville University at CMC and request a review of your planned coursework. Ask for written confirmation of any transfer approval and its conditions.
Gather course descriptions and keep your syllabi. Ask the receiving college which materials it needs to evaluate your courses.
Ask how accepted credits would count toward your degree, not just whether they transfer. They may satisfy specific requirements or count only as electives. Also confirm minimum grades and any limits on transfer credits.
Check admission rules separately. Ask whether taking college courses after high school affects your first-year applicant status or an existing deferral.
After completing the semester, ask CMC or Greenville University how to send your official transcript to the receiving college. Follow that college’s submission instructions and confirm the final evaluation with your academic advisor.
What can I do after completing CMC?
CMC helps students explore potential next steps through practical experience, industry connections, and college credit. Depending on your goals, you may choose to continue your education, pursue an internship opportunity, or explore work in the music and entertainment industries.
